Battle Scars

Unfortuanlty, Nicky had to go through a very tragic surf accident during her first competition about a month ago. What an awful experience we all had to live. She will have her scar to prove it for the rest of her life.

She was simply practicing in the water just before it was her turn to compete. Very windy and massive waves that day. A beginner surfer came into water right next to her and before she knew it, that girl lost control of her board and it flew in the wind right over to Nicky hitting her extremly hard on the face. This took her out the hit was so bad, and thank god Joe was in the water watching her right then....he was her guardian angel at that moment. Saved her and brought her ashore in a panic with blood spulling everywhere. A complete horror scene.

A doctor happened to be there to help us and bandaged her up quick while an ambulance was called. Od course they were ALL taken in the area with other accidents, so were rushed to the nearest clinic. The doctor had to freeze her with 7 needles and 14 stiches. After all that pain and hell however.....my baby was ok and alive.

Above is a picture of the 3rd day of recovery when the swelling and bruising around her eyes was at its worst, and the scar and stiches were still all bleeding and open.

On the left, Nicky's beautiful battle scar now...

What an awful event the poor kid had to go through which affected and traumatized the entire family aswell. This has made us all sooo much more cautious now and she is just starting again to get back on her board, making sure she is far away from any beginner and other surfer and always within reach. What a good sport. Always so tough. May god be with her in that water at all times.
